A true fighter

A bunch of jokers are fighting again on this coming 328. For what they fight each other I don’t really care. Some said they fight to end dispute, to heal crisis and to stabilize the party. Some probably fight because their supporters want them to do so. But one thing in common, all of them fight for their own agenda, never for the people, never for you and me. What contributions MCA made after their dismal defeats on 308 general elections? Nothing I suppose, only fighting and continue fighting.

On the other hand, we have seen a true Malaysian hero fighting for the sovereignty of the nation. All England is not only his own achievement; Chong Wei knows that, it is for the whole nation. This time around he fought a good battle, slightly nervous at the beginning but slowly and confidently taming another fighter from Japan. Tago is not only a giant killer, defeating higher-ranked players one after another. His skill is undisputed and a big surprise to most of the people but what’s more inspiring was his fighting spirit, the never say die attitude. Chong Wei and Toga alike, not only fighting for their own glory, they are fighting for their nation. The match was live telecast over the world and as Chong Wei received his trophy and walking around the stadium thanking his supporters, you can see everybody gave him a standing ovation, black, white, chocolate, yellow all were chanting his name and offering their congratulations.

He is a true hero, fighting for the country and all his countrymen and women. As a developing nation, we need more dedicated athletes like Chong Wei as when our athletes are standing on the podium with the rising of jalur gemilang and national anthem, the whole world will know who we are. So no point spending millions to shoot up one astronaut, that will be just too expensive for a small nation, and too artificial.

Congratulation Chong Wei, you are a true fighter. Shame on you all, ever-fighting politicians or shall I say, forever fighting for personal gain bunch of suckers.

5.65% quite ok lah

Many days ago a contractor came over to my office to put up a quote for some renovation work. As we were having lunch together, he asked my opinion as to whether he should withdraw part of his EPF as he is already above 50 years old. I asked him why he wanted to do so and he said he didn’t have much money in his EPF which was deposited during his younger days when he was wage earner. He stopped contributing to EPF when he started up his own renovation business. He was sick about the pitiful dividends paid by EPF over the past few years.

This happened just before EPF announced the quite decent 5.65% dividends for 2009 just some days ago. I’m not a financial expert and this guy is very much elder than me so I didn’t give him any advice but asked him how well he can manage the money should he decided to withdraw them. He was unsure and said that probably he would invest in the share market. I told him that as far as I’m concerned, EPF is a saving for retirement and therefore it should not be touched until you are retired. Share market is just like Russian roulette, you make big buck sometimes, and you can go kaput some other time. This chap although not very highly educated agreed with me on that point and said that he would leave his EPF alone until he retire.

I’m glad that he listens to me. Survey from EPF indicated that most of the contributors finish off their money 3 years after withdrawal and ended up in misery. Of course I will still curse and swear whenever EPF is giving poor dividends but I don’t think any ordinary person can manage a big sum of money that efficiently giving that we do not have the knowledge and discipline to do it. So let’s leave your EPF alone and join me in swearing at the government if EPF give us poor dividend next year. This year just give them a big clap, 5.65% not too bad in the light of global financial crisis.

Money no enough? Woman no enough?

Extra-marital affairs seem to be the latest in-thing for the rich and famous. From Tiger Wood, John Terry, our very own Tiger Chua and now the fire of desire has burnt at Singapore and the famous director “Liang Po-Po” a.k.a Jack Neo is the latest adulterer. I don’t know for sure whether the whole episode is coincidental or rather his attempt to promote his latest movie. But if it is indeed a plot planned by Jack Neo to promote his latest movie then it is a just cheap publicity, in the way hurting so many people, his wife and children especially.

In a 5-minute press conference held yesterday, Jack begged for forgiveness and support then broke down several times and his wife cried and fainted and Jack and his accompanies shouted at the reporters not to take photos and asking them to give way. The whole things looked so familiar, as though the press conference by itself is part of a movie, and Jack Neo truly served up to his reputation as one of the most entertaining director cum actor in Singapore.
